Sister of the Brotherhood

WHAT I WRITE

I began writing about nine years ago when a friend of mine suggested I write about my on-the-job experiences. Easy for her to say, she is a writer and memoir writing instructor.  But after taking her class for two sessions, I was hooked. It wasn't the act of writing I loved, but the realization of how my career as a union carpenter and working with men changed who I was.  While putting  walls up, I had to tear some down.
How a career in carpentry helped build a woman
Sister of the Brotherhood is not a how-to book for women in the trades, nor is it a litany of injustices put to me by my male counterparts. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Sister of the Brotherhood details my most interesting and harrowing experiences that I have encountered over the last seventeen years as a woman carpenter, and a tribute to some of the men who have saved me. In more ways than one.
